The world of drumming is an exciting place filled with endless possibilities. Whether you are a beginner or a professional drummer, our lessons have a lot to offer. We offer both private drum lessons and group beginner drum lessons to cater for you or your child’s needs.

We offer a friendly and supportive learning environment, where you can connect with other talented drummers and share your passion for drumming.

Learning to play the drums is a fantastic experience, filled with excitement and endless possibilities. The skills you’ll learn on your drum set will help you develop your sense of timing, boost your creativity, and give you the ability to express yourself through music. Even if you’ve never played an instrument before, our drum lessons are designed to help you achieve your goals and unlock your full potential as a drummer.

At The Music Works, our Yamaha Drum Encounters course makes learning the drums in groups for students aged 7 to 11 easy and enjoyable. This comprehensive curriculum is designed to accommodate beginners, and our experienced drum teachers are dedicated to guiding you through each step of the learning process, ensuring that you develop a solid foundation in drumming technique and musicality.

One of the key benefits of our teaching method is its emphasis on developing musical ears, with an ear-before-eyes approach. We believe that being able to listen to and respond to the music around you is essential for any drummer. Through a series of ear training exercises and rhythmic exercises, you’ll learn to recognise different musical patterns and develop a keen sense of timing. This will not only make you a better drummer but also a well-rounded musician overall.

Learning drums in a group is also a fantastic way to develop social skills, self-esteem and a love for performance. Not only this but learning an instrument has repeatedly been shown in studies to help with emotional regulation, coping with stress, develop critical thinking and reduce heart rate. Private drum lessons are available for students aged 7 and up, and cater for all abilities, from beginner, to intermediate, to advanced. We welcome all ages, from children, to teenagers, to adults and seniors.

Private drum lessons are a fantastic way to delve deeper into learning the drums, where your teacher will guide you at your own pace. Lessons will cover everything needed to become a musician, such as technical development, repertoire, aural training, sight reading and general knowledge, such as music history.

At The Music Works, we cater to (almost) all music genres (it’s hard to teach Gabber on a ukulele!). Whether you are into rock, pop, jazz or metal, our drum instructors are well-versed in all these styles and more. We’ll teach you the techniques and skills you need to play the music you love most. Our drum instructors will customise the lessons to align with your musical preferences, ensuring that you receive the necessary skills to excel at your drum kit.

Students at the music works receive many opportunities each year to perform live, from small events at our music school to large festivals, such as the Haslemere Fringe. We believe that performing is a cornerstone of becoming a competent musician, and one of THE best ways to affirm where you are on your instrument and of course have lots of fun!

If your goal is to pursue a career in music, our course can help you achieve your dreams. We offer the option to study for graded exams, which can provide you with recognised credentials, or you can choose to learn purely for personal satisfaction. And as an RSL Awards (Rockschool) Champion Centre, it couldn’t be easier to take. Regardless of your objectives, our passionate and committed tutors will collaborate with you to assist you in reaching them.

Whether you dream of performing on stage or simply want to jam with friends, our drum lessons will equip you with the skills, and self-assurance to become the drummer you’ve always wanted to be. With our experienced drum instructors, you’ll be well on your way to becoming a skilled and accomplished drummer.
