Music is a language that transcends all boundaries. It is a medium that connects people from different cultures and backgrounds, uniting them through shared experiences and emotions. This is why music is often referred to as the universal language. It is a form of expression that touches the hearts and souls of people from all walks of life.
From a very young age, children have a natural inclination towards music, and music lessons are the best way to help develop their singing and playing. They are often seen tapping their feet, clapping their hands, or humming a tune. This is because music has a unique ability to stimulate the brain and enhance cognitive development. It is essential to nurture this inclination and help children develop into well-rounded individuals.
Yamaha’s Junior Music Course at The Music Works is an excellent way to empower children to explore and develop their musical abilities from a young age. The course is designed to provide a solid foundation in music theory and practice, which will enable students to achieve remarkable musicianship and go on to develop music composition skills. Children as young as 4.5 to 6.5 years old can embark on this journey, and it is a course that they can continue until their teenage years. Whether you are looking for a pre-school music class or a toddler music class, there are not many courses that are as comprehensive as the Yamaha Junior Music Course!
If you have a child who is older than the starting age, we also have great private and group lesson options. For students aged 7 years and up, check out our group Keyboard lessons or our private Piano lessons.
The Junior Music Course is not only about learning how to play an instrument or sing a song. It is about developing a deep understanding and appreciation for music. Students learn about the different types of music, their origins, and how they have evolved over time. They also learn about the different elements of music, such as melody, harmony, rhythm, and dynamics.
With over a decade of experience delivering the Yamaha Junior Music Course, we now have students in their mid to late teens who have studied the full course. The standard of musicianship that these students attain is excellent, with many picking up a second, third and even fourth instrument before they are an adult. Many of our Junior Music Course students go on to also study Drums, Bass, Guitar, Keyboard, Piano, Ukulele, Singing or Band Skills.
One of the primary objectives of the Junior Music Course is to help children develop perfect pitch. Perfect pitch is the ability to identify and reproduce musical notes without any external reference. It is a rare skill that only a few people possess, but it can be developed through proper training and practice. The course provides students with a range of exercises and activities that help them develop their sense of pitch and improve their ability to recognise and reproduce musical notes.
In addition to perfect pitch, the Junior Music Course also helps children develop other essential skills, such as hand-eye coordination, concentration, and discipline. Learning an instrument requires a lot of practice and patience, and the course helps students develop these qualities through regular practice sessions and performances.
The benefits of learning music at a young age extend beyond the classroom. Studies have shown that children who attend music classes have better cognitive development, improved memory, and enhanced problem-solving skills. They also have better social skills and are more confident and self-assured.
Music is not just an art form; it is a way of life. It has the power to inspire, uplift, and heal. It is a medium through which people can express their deepest emotions and connect with others. Learning music at a young age is an investment in the future. It is a gift that will stay with children for a lifetime, providing them with a source of joy and fulfilment.
The Junior Music Course is an excellent opportunity for students to develop their musical skills and knowledge. The course is designed to provide students with the tools and techniques they need to master different aspects of music, including perfect pitch, harmony, and harmonic phrases.
Perfect pitch is a highly sought-after skill among musicians, as it allows them to recognise and reproduce musical notes accurately without the need for reference. The Junior Music Course focuses on developing perfect pitch in students by training them to recognise different musical notes and their pitch. This skill is invaluable for any musician, as it enables them to play music with greater accuracy and precision.
Harmony is another critical aspect of music that the Junior Music Course emphasises. Harmony is the combination of different musical notes played or sung simultaneously, creating a rich and complex sound. Our music teachers show students how to identify and create harmonies, which is an essential skill for any musician. Understanding harmony enables musicians to create more complex and beautiful music, adding depth and texture to their compositions.
The Junior Music Course also focuses on developing the ability to identify and create harmonic phrases. A harmonic phrase is a group of musical notes that form a complete musical thought. It is a fundamental building block of music, and the ability to recognise and create harmonic phrases is essential for any musician. The course teaches students how to recognise and create harmonic phrases, which is a valuable skill that will serve them well in their musical journey.
The Junior Music Course offered by our music school is designed to help children develop their musical abilities in a natural and expressive manner. The approach used in this course treats music as a language, which makes learning joyful and organic. This unique approach allows children’s creativity to flourish right from the start, and it helps them develop a deep love and appreciation for music.
The course is taught by experienced and highly qualified instructors who have a passion for music and a commitment to helping children develop their musical abilities. Our instructors use a variety of teaching methods, including games, songs, and stories, to make learning fun and engaging for children. They also provide individualised instruction to ensure that each student receives the attention and support they need to succeed.
The course is structured to provide a solid musical foundation for children. The curriculum includes lessons in music theory, ear training, and instrumental performance. Children will learn how to read music, play an instrument, and understand the different elements of music, such as rhythm, melody, and harmony.
Choosing our Junior Music Course is an exceptional option for parents who want to give their child a solid musical foundation. Our instructors are dedicated to helping children develop their musical abilities in a fun and engaging way, and our curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive musical education.
